BECOME A PART OF THE ART AT WANÅS 2011

Wanås has spring in sight. On May 15, 2011 the exhibitions open for the season, the first time under new leadership. It is a lively season with new art works in the sculpture park by Yoko Ono and Jacob
. Parallel, the permanent collection is activated by a closer look on Charlotte Gyllenhammar’s oeuvre and the release of a guide exploring the collection. An entirely new initiative is the premier of a children’s book series as well as a presentation focusing on design that invites you to use it.

New productions in the Park – Yoko Ono and Jacob Dahlgren

This year Yoko Ono (b. 1933, JP) and Jacob Dahlgren (b. 1970, SE) are invited to use the park as their space. Elisabeth Millqvist, new Artistic Director at Wanås, comments the new season:

—The artist’s work enhances the performative and the spectator becomes participant.

Yoko Ono has been a ground breaking artist since the 1960s. At the Venice Biennale she received the Golden Lion for Life Achievement Award. At the opening in May Ono presents four works and in addition she starts on a new piece specifically for Wanås which will emerge during the fall. With simple means, wishes, instructions and broken porcelain she deals with love, peace and memory. She comments her art:

—All my works are a form of wishing. Keep wishing while you participate.

Jacob Dahlgren is one of Sweden´s most prominent artists. He works continuously with material from daily life creating abstract works that in different ways engages the viewer. In a new large scale sculpture he invites the spectator to move in and on top of the art work. During the opening ceremony Dahlgren makes a performance. The artist says: —Life is like a huge art history exhibition.
Starting on May 28, Dahlgren is also on view at Skärets Konsthall in Nyhamnsläge, close to Höganäs and Ängelholm.

”Revisit” – Charlotte Gyllenhammar

The Park at Wanås is open all year and exhibits more than 40 permanent works of contemporary art. Starting in 2011 the art gallery will feature an in depth presentation of an artist who is already represented in the sculpture park. The first “Revisit” is of Charlotte Gyllenhammar (b. 1963, SE). In 2002 she created the major installation Vertigo – a copy of her studio, upside down and under ground at Wanås.

Premier for a children’s book – Astrid Trotzig and Fredrik Söderberg

In a new artistic experiment a series of children’s books is being published by Wanås Art. The plan is to release one book per year and by different authors and artists. The common denominator is that the story takes place at Wanås. The reader follows a character who experiences and discovers art in the park and in the imagination. The first book is an adventurous picture book by the writer Astrid Trotzig (b. 1970, SE) and the artist Fredrik Söderberg (b. 1972, SE).

Design – Expeditionen för arkitektur och grafisk form

Matilda Plöjel (b.1974, SE) and Katarina Rundgren (b. 1973, SE)

Wanås expands to include related Art disciplines. The group that referrers to themselves as an expedition for architecture and graphic form, abandons the traditional exhibition display. They create a presentation for visitors to become apart of.

—At Wanås both the artists and visitors become bold. The artists create outside the traditional exhibition space and dare experiment, and visitors dare to explore the art, says Mattias Givell, new Project Director at Wanås.
