Distance (d) divided by time (t) is the mathematical formula for velocity (v). Imagine the view from a window of a high-speed train, when the train reaches full speed and the trees out- side are close enough to the subject and the landscape turns into stripes. The closer the objects are and the faster the train travels, the more and more abstract the view becomes. While the real landscape stays as it is, our perception shows us the surrounding world in lines. Moving bright objects in long exposed photographs also appear as lines, which are actually appropriated by cartoonists to show speed in their drawings.
The perception of stripes increases as the train picks up speed. They are not as sharp as the stripes on this T-shirts but if you narrow your eyes you may see what I mean.
